Apete Narogo, a 23-year-old rugby talent from Nakorovou, Serua, has secured a spot on the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s squad, heralding a significant milestone in his burgeoning career ahead of the HSBC SVNS Dubai 7s tournament. The announcement, made by head coach Osea Kolinisau, features a blend of seasoned athletes and promising newcomers, with Narogo emerging as a notable player from Semi Radradra’s Ubuntu team.
Narogo’s journey to this point has been fueled by his determination and hard work, as he has been vying for this opportunity since earlier this year against fellow competitors like Isikeli Basiyalo and fly-half Aisea Nawai. Expressing his excitement, Narogo remarked, “It was a blessing from God that I have been called up to join the Fiji 7s squad. Every Fijian boy dreams of wearing the white jersey and representing the country; this is a blessed opportunity for me.”
His rugby career took off after completing school in Form 7 at Lomary Secondary School, where he often chose rugby competitions over academics. His beginnings with the Dominion Brothers rugby team led him through various levels of the sport, showcasing his commitment and passion.
Joining Narogo on the field will be experienced players like Terio Tamani, Pilipo Bukayaro, and Joseva Talacolo, bringing a mix of skill and knowledge to the team. Fiji’s opening match is scheduled against Argentina on November 29 at 9:10 PM, followed by tough encounters with South Africa and France.
