The Commonwealth Secretariat and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda have officially announced the theme for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), titled “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” This announcement was made by Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Commonwealth Secretary-General Hon. Shirley Botchwey in St. John’s during the Secretary-General’s inaugural visit to the country.
The chosen theme reflects a clear vision for CHOGM 2026, aiming to unite leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations in a collaborative effort to enhance investment opportunities and foster sustainable growth across the member states. Prime Minister Browne emphasized that the theme epitomizes Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to unity, progress, and equality among nations. He stated, “It echoes our national motto, ‘Each Endeavouring, All Achieving,’ reminding us that real progress happens when we work together.”
Secretary-General Botchwey noted that this theme encapsulates the contemporary mission of the Commonwealth, aiming to bridge partnerships between governments and businesses to yield impactful results for citizens globally. She expressed anticipation for the warmth and pride that Antigua and Barbuda will bring to CHOGM 2026 as the gathering seeks to accelerate innovation and inclusion.
The launch ceremony also revealed the official CHOGM 2026 logo, created by Chaneil C. Imhoff, who won the national logo competition. The logo features an abstract frigate bird, symbolizing freedom and resilience, and is infused with colors representing unity and collaboration.
Emphasizing inclusivity, the launch event engaged a wide cross-section of Antiguan and Barbudan society, including youth ambassadors, representatives from the Rastafarian community, and various organizations. Entertainment by local performers further showcased the rich cultural heritage of Antigua and Barbuda.
In addition, it was announced that cricketing hero Sir Vivian Richards will serve as the CHOGM 2026 Envoy. Reflecting on this role, Sir Vivian recognized the significance of the Commonwealth gathering in Antigua and expressed the islands’ readiness to showcase their spirit, culture, and contributions during this landmark event.
The Secretary-General’s visit from November 3 to 5, 2025, marks the beginning of the Commonwealth’s communication journey leading up to CHOGM 2026, encompassing vital meetings and participation in significant national celebrations.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chet Greene, highlighted the collaboration between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth Secretariat in realizing this vision, reiterating their shared commitment to the values that unite their Commonwealth family.
CHOGM 2026 is scheduled for November 1 to 4, 2026, and will focus on key issues such as climate resilience, trade, innovation, and sustainable development, reinforcing the spirit of partnership among member nations. This initiative holds great promise for fostering a cooperative future and driving collective progress across the Commonwealth.
