Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update Teases Retro Gear, Lego Collabs and Amiibo Surprises

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to receive an exciting free update, bringing a host of new collaborative content that fans of the game will certainly appreciate. Scheduled for release on January 15, 2026, alongside the Switch 2 Edition of the game, this update is designed to enhance the experience for players who continue to enjoy the original version on the Nintendo Switch.

The forthcoming update, which elevates the game to level 3.0, introduces a range of new features including a pier-side hotel. This hotel will have a souvenir shop that gradually adds retro Nintendo products as its brand recognition improves. Players can look forward to acquiring nostalgic items such as the Ultra Hand, Ultra Machine, and Love Tester, alongside classic consoles like the Famicom, NES, Famicom Disk System, Game Boy, and Super Famicom.

In a delightful addition, if players possess an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, they will have the opportunity to play retro games on these classic consoles. This feature serves to cultivate both nostalgia and engagement, offering a unique way to relive cherished gaming moments.

Furthermore, the update will expand Nook Shopping with new collaboration items, including various official Lego creations. Among the purchasable items are Lego beds, workbenches, fireplaces, plants, sofas, tables, and character outfits. This creative partnership with Lego enhances players’ customization options, allowing them to bring more imaginative elements into their islands.

Moreover, collaborations involving amiibo figures will unlock items and characters from iconic Nintendo franchises such as The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon. Players tapping their Zelda amiibo can expect to unlock themed items, including outfits, the Triforce, the Master Sword, and Majora’s Mask. Notably, they will also be able to invite two new Zelda-themed characters, Tulin and Mineru, to reside on their island.

For fans of Splatoon, tapping respective amiibo will grant access to characters Cece and Viché, who will come outfitted in Splatoon-themed attire. In addition, players can look forward to retrieving unique Splatoon items through Nook Shopping, including Splatoon lockers and Inkling headwear.

With a blend of nostalgic retro items and innovative collaborations, this new update promises to enrich the Animal Crossing: New Horizons experience and keep players engaged in their charming virtual islands. The continuous evolution of the game underscores Nintendo’s commitment to its community and the enduring popularity of this beloved title.
