Angel Reese’s Season Ends in Heartbreaking Injury – What’s Next for the Rising Star?

Angel Reese’s inaugural season has concluded, as the Chicago Sky forward revealed on Saturday that she has sustained a season-ending injury. Reese injured her wrist during the Sky’s 92-78 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, where she once again showcased her remarkable talent with a double-double performance.

The Chicago Sky confirmed the seriousness of the injury, stating, “Reese has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury.”

In her social media update, Reese expressed mixed emotions about her injury, saying, “Through it all, I have shown that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. I’m filled with emotions right now regarding my season-ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next.”

Reese concluded her rookie season with an impressive average of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Earlier this month, she made history by surpassing Sylvia Fowles’ single-season rebound record, marking a significant achievement in her chase for the Rookie of the Year title, a competitive race she has faced against fellow star Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever. In their last head-to-head match-up, the Fever triumphed over the Sky with a 100-81 score, with Clark delivering a career-high performance of 31 points.

“Caitlin is an amazing player, and I have always thought that. We’ve been competing against each other since high school. So I think it’s really just the fans that drive the rivalry,” Reese stated on her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” “At the end of the day, it’s a game we both love, but there is no animosity.”

With two weeks remaining in the WNBA regular season and seven of the eight playoff spots already filled, the Sky are in the race for the final slot. Reese reassured her fans and teammates that she will continue to support them as “the biggest cheerleader on the sideline!”
