Angel Reese’s Rookie Dreams Cut Short: A Season-Ending Injury Shocks Fans

Angel Reese’s inaugural season has concluded, as the forward for the Chicago Sky announced on Saturday that she has sustained a season-ending injury. The injury occurred to her wrist during the Sky’s 92-78 win against the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, where she notably achieved another of her trademark double-doubles.

The Sky confirmed the serious nature of the injury in a statement, stating that “Reese has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury.”

In a heartfelt social media message, Reese shared, “Through it all, I have shown that I belong in this league, even when no one else believed. I’m filled with emotions right now regarding my season-ending injury, but also so grateful for what is to come next.”

Reese finishes her rookie year with impressive averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Earlier this month, she made history in the WNBA by surpassing Sylvia Fowles’ record for the most rebounds in a single season.

This accomplishment has bolstered Reese’s chances in the competitive Rookie of the Year race against fellow standout Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever. The Fever defeated the Sky 100-81 in their last game of the season, with Clark scoring a career-high 31 points.

“Caitlin is an amazing player; I’ve always felt that way. We’ve been competing against each other since high school. I think it’s really just about the fans,” Reese remarked on her new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” “At the end of the day, it’s a game we both love, but there’s no animosity.”

With two weeks remaining in the WNBA regular season and seven of eight playoff spots already claimed, the Sky are battling for the final position. Reese assured her supporters and teammates on social media that they can still expect to see her “being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline!”
