Angel Reese Makes History with Chicago Sky’s First Triple-Double in Epic Comeback

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese achieved a significant milestone by recording the first triple-double of her career in a 78-66 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Reese’s impressive stats included 11 points, 13 rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists, helping the Sky to rally from an 8-0 deficit, securing only their third victory of the season. The moment was particularly exciting for Reese as she celebrated reaching double-digit assists, an accomplishment she shared with her teammates.

Reflecting on her performance, Reese expressed her commitment to becoming a versatile player, mentioning coach Tyler Marsh’s emphasis on adapting her game this season. She shared her excitement for achieving the triple-double alongside a team victory, highlighting the importance of both personal and team success.

Reese, who has recorded 30 double-doubles throughout her career, previously struggled with her assist totals, never exceeding five in a game before now. This achievement marked only the second triple-double of the 2025 WNBA season, following Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. Additionally, it was the first triple-double recorded by a Chicago Sky player since 2023.

Under first-year head coach Marsh, Reese has been utilized more on the perimeter, which has enhanced her game as she is encouraged to contribute in various ways. Marsh praised the passing ability of the team’s bigs, noting the significant role it plays in their offensive strategy.

The victory was particularly meaningful for the Sky, snapping a three-game losing streak, especially after veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot’s ACL injury on June 6. Since then, the team’s strategy has shifted to a more post-driven offense, which Reese has adapted to, scoring in double figures during the last three games, achieving an average of 10.3 points and leading the league with 11.8 rebounds.

Rookie guard Hailey Van Lith also stepped up in the win, scoring a career-high 16 points, showcasing her potential as an emerging player in the league. Van Lith emphasized the importance of maintaining a calm mindset during the game, which translated to her performance on the court.

Reese described the team’s need for victory as “desperate,” and the win also marked their first in Commissioner’s Cup play. Looking forward, the Sky will continue their five-game Commissioner’s Cup schedule against the Washington Mystics on Tuesday. Coach Marsh acknowledged the team’s resilience, emphasizing their ability to navigate challenges and maintain strong connectivity.

This triumph not only underscores Reese’s individual growth but also reflects the Sky’s potential as they develop as a cohesive unit amid setbacks.
