Ancelotti Hails Mbappé’s Impact as Madrid Bounces Back in Champions League

Carlo Ancelotti commended Kylian Mbappé’s contribution in Real Madrid’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League, while acknowledging that the star forward was not at full fitness.

In a much-needed win, Real Madrid broke their two-game losing streak in the competition, with goals from Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham. The triumph marked the first defeat of the season for Atalanta, who currently lead Serie A. Mbappé opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but had to leave the pitch due to an injury by the 35th minute.

Atalanta equalized just before halftime with a penalty from Charles de Ketelaere, awarded after Aurelien Tchouameni fouled Sead Kolasinac. Real responded after halftime with Vinicius netting a follow-up goal in the 56th minute, and Bellingham extending the lead with a goal just three minutes later. Although Ademola Lookman pulled one back for Atalanta in the 65th minute, Thibaut Courtois’ impressive performance ensured Madrid held on for the win.

Currently, Madrid sits in 18th place in the 36-team table with nine points, just three points away from the vital top eight spots that guarantee qualification for the last 16. Atalanta occupies ninth place with 11 points.

Brahim Diaz, who assisted Mbappé’s opener, expressed optimism following the match, emphasizing the team’s confidence and commitment to improving. He noted that winning their last two matches could see them finish with 15 points, which could shift their fortunes in the group.

Despite a rocky start to their title defense after a remarkable season last year, Madrid’s victory provides a glimmer of hope. They can build momentum as they seek to qualify for the next stage of the competition, showcasing the resilience and depth of the squad.

This encouraging performance against Atalanta, combined with a renewed spirit from the players, sets the stage for a promising conclusion to the group stage, allowing fans to remain hopeful for another strong run in Europe.
