Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas are in discussions to co-star in “Safe Houses,” a new spy series created by Gideon Raff, known for his work on “Homeland.” The series is being developed at Apple and consists of eight episodes, drawing inspiration from an international espionage thriller novel by Dan Fesperman.
“Safe Houses” kicks off in the aftermath of the assassination of a high-ranking CIA officer in Madrid. In this tense narrative, de Armas takes on the role of Sofia Jiménez, a fugitive agent who finds herself wrongfully accused of the crime. Connelly portrays Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop, the widow of the deceased CIA officer. As both women delve into the murder investigation from their respective angles, they uncover a sprawling conspiracy that threatens to disrupt the global power dynamics.
The project is backed by Wiip and Apple Studios, with Otto Bathurst, recognized for his work on “Peaky Blinders,” set to direct the initial block of episodes. Raff is not only the showrunner but also intends to direct several additional episodes while serving as an executive producer alongside Alexandra Milchan, Paul Lee, and David Flynn.
Ana de Armas recently appeared in the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina,” while Jennifer Connelly has previously collaborated with Apple TV on “Dark Matter.” This combination of talent promises an engaging and compelling storyline that could capture audiences’ attention soon.
