DETROIT — The status of Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown remains uncertain ahead of Thursday night’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, with his availability likely being a game-time decision.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism regarding St. Brown’s potential to take the field, stating, “I know this, if he can play, he’ll play.” This sentiment reflects the team’s reliance on St. Brown as they navigate the closing stretch of the season in pursuit of a playoff berth.
Currently dealing with a sprained ankle, St. Brown has not participated in practice this week; however, he has been actively engaged in mental preparation. He addressed reporters, noting that his decision to play is still “up in the air.” He continues to test his ankle, focusing on his ability to change directions and perform cuts without aggravating the injury.
“It hurts, but it’s getting better. So, that’s the good news. Just day by day,” St. Brown shared. The injury occurred during the first quarter of the Lions’ 31-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving, when he was injured while blocking for teammate Jahmyr Gibbs. He briefly remained on the ground before leaving the game and heading to the locker room.
Initially, there was concern that St. Brown could miss one to two weeks, but his determination to play has been evident as the Lions prepare for a critical five-game stretch. St. Brown, a team captain in his fifth season, leads the Lions with 75 receptions, 884 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns.
St. Brown remains hopeful for continued improvement, stating, “Every day it’s gotten better, so I hope that it continues to get better these next few days.” His resilience and commitment not only to his health but also to his teammates highlight his role as a key leader within the locker room as the team strives for postseason success.
