Americano Faces Crucial Turning Point in Copa Rio After Setback

In the opening match of the Copa Rio, Americano faced a setback, losing 2-0 to Campo Grande. The game was held at the Estádio Antônio Mourão Vieira Filho in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday afternoon, September 25.

Campo Grande took the lead early in the second half when defender Lucas Caldeira scored just four minutes in. The advantage was extended at the 17-minute mark with a goal from Danilo Beiço. Despite Americano’s efforts to press and create scoring opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net.

Looking ahead, the two teams will meet again on Wednesday, October 2, at the Estádio Ary de Oliveira e Souza. For Americano to advance, they need to win by at least 3-0; however, if they match Campo Grande’s scoreline, the match will go to penalties. The winner will go on to face Bangu in the next round of the Copa Rio.

Before this pivotal second match, Americano has a crucial fixture in the A2 Carioca Championship, where they will play against Duque de Caxias on Saturday, September 28, at 2:45 PM at the Estádio Marrentão.

This upcoming match against Duque de Caxias may provide the Americano squad with an opportunity to regroup and build momentum ahead of their critical clash in the Copa Rio. Fans remain hopeful that the team can turn their fortunes around and achieve a strong performance in the next match.
