Virginia State Police have successfully cancelled an AMBER alert for three children who were recently abducted from Fishersville, Virginia, after the children’s estranged biological mother was arrested. Shanice Davison, 35, from Evergreen, Alabama, was apprehended by the Alabama Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service in the Birmingham area following a brief police chase on I-495. Fortunately, Davison was taken into custody without any incident, and importantly, all three children were located unharmed.
The investigation revealed that Davison was responsible for the disappearance of her children: Jai’Marcus Lewis, 10, Ja’Miyah Lewis, 8, and Ja’Liyah Lewis, 6. Evidence indicated she may have been attempting to return to Alabama with them. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office had previously expressed concerns for the children’s safety, leading to the issuance of the AMBER alert, which indicated the children could be in “extreme danger.”
The situation escalated when the children’s legal guardians reported the abduction after the young ones were taken from their bus stop by a man driving a black four-door vehicle, later identified as potentially being a newer model Nissan Sentra. The children had been waiting to catch a bus around 7:40 a.m. when they were taken.
Sheriff Donald Smith emphasized the commitment to the children’s safety, stating, “This is an active investigation, and we are committed to reuniting the children with their legal guardians as quickly and safely as possible.” The prompt actions by law enforcement across state lines resulted in a successful resolution to what was a critical situation.
This incident served as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and response, which ultimately aided in the safe recovery of the children. The collaboration between Virginia and Alabama law enforcement agencies showcases effective communication and cooperation, emphasizing the dedication to child safety and welfare.
In summary, the quick resolution of this case has allowed for the safe return of the children, highlighting the success of law enforcement efforts in protecting vulnerable individuals.
