Lilian Amazons delivered a remarkable performance on the first day of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s tournament, finishing without a loss in the women’s division. The team commenced their journey with a hard-fought 17-12 victory against Seahawks and followed it up with a close 12-10 win over Ezers Women, solidifying their unbeaten streak.

Team captain Laisa Seru highlighted the significance of the tournament for player development, pointing out that many of the athletes, aged 16 and 17, were making their debut in a substantial sevens event. She underscored the importance of offering these young players a chance to demonstrate their skills and gain vital experience. The Amazons are dedicated to fostering the growth of emerging talents in women’s rugby, making them eager for a competitive tournament.

The tournament’s opening round yielded some surprising outcomes, particularly with Loloma Heights Women from Savusavu upsetting Ezers Women with a 5-0 victory. Tagimoucia Ranadi established themselves as one of the favorites, securing one win and one draw, while Kasabias Sinukalala also maintained their competitiveness with similar results.

In the initial matchups, Loloma Heights defeated Ezers Women 5-0, and Lilian Amazons edged out Seahawks 17-12. Tagimoucia Ranadi and Kasabias Sinukalala played to a 5-5 draw, whereas Kadavu Stallion showcased a formidable performance by besting Vuna Sisters 24-0. The second round featured Lilian Amazons narrowly overcoming Ezers Women 12-10. Seahawks bounced back with a 15-5 win against Loloma Heights, Tagimoucia Ranadi triumphed over Kadavu Stallion 10-0, and Kasabias Sinukalala dominated Vuna Sisters with a resounding 29-0 victory.

As the women’s teams prepare for their final pool matches today, the excitement continues to build in the Labasa tournament, promising an electrifying conclusion to a thrilling day of rugby.
