Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia revealed the heartbreaking loss of his infant daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, who passed away on October 26th. This tragic news came after Vesia missed the entire 2025 World Series due to a “deeply personal family matter” involving his wife, Kayla.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vesia expressed the profound grief he and his wife are experiencing, stating, “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The Dodgers organization was aware of Vesia’s personal struggles and chose to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time. Teammate Will Klein remarked on the situation, emphasizing the importance of offering support: “I would like to let them speak about that when they want to, but just keeping them in our thoughts and our prayers. There’s bigger things than baseball. He’s in all of our hearts.”
In a show of solidarity, both the Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays bullpens honored Vesia by writing his jersey number, 51, on their caps. This gesture was especially poignant as Dodgers relief pitchers took the field in Game 3 adorned with the number, and Blue Jays relievers joined them in Game 6.
Since joining the Dodgers from the Miami Marlins in 2021, Vesia has become a beloved member of the team. His promising role in the Fall Classic had been anticipated, but the tragic circumstances led to a shift in focus for both the player and the organization. Through the compassion shown by his teammates and the support of the baseball community, Vesia and his family can find some solace during this incredibly challenging time.
