Philadelphia city workers have returned to their offices, and stamp prices are on the rise once again.
In sports news, Philadelphia Phillies’ third baseman Alec Bohm was knocked out of the 2024 Home Run Derby in the semifinals. He faced off against Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, who eventually became the champion, during an intense swing-off on Monday night.
Bohm and Hernandez both hit 14 home runs in the semifinals, leading to a swing-off to determine who would advance to the finals against Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. Hernandez hit two home runs in the swing-off while Bohm managed only one, resulting in his elimination.
Despite having the longest odds to win the derby, Bohm impressed with the most home runs in the first round, hitting 21 and securing the No. 1 seed in the semifinals. Cheered on by many of his Phillies teammates, including first baseman Bryce Harper, Bohm put on an impressive performance. Harper even brought a water jug with “Wooder” taped onto it to support his teammate.
Bohm’s longest home run in the first round traveled 445 feet, and his hardest-hit home run had an exit velocity of 105 mph. Although Bohm entered the derby with the fewest home runs among all contestants, Phillies manager Rob Thomson predicted he would perform well, and Bohm proved him right.
Bohm will represent the Phillies as the starting third baseman for the National League All-Star team, joined by teammates Bryce Harper and Trea Turner. The Phillies have sent a franchise-record eight players to the All-Star game this year. They will resume their season on Friday with a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
