Judge Throws Out Case Against Alec Baldwin
Santa Fe Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer has dismissed the involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin’s attorneys had recently filed a motion to dismiss, arguing that the state failed to disclose potentially key evidence, a claim that prosecutors contested. Earlier today, Judge Sommer dismissed the jury and later ruled that this critical evidence warranted ending the trial.
“There is no way for the court to right this wrong,” Judge Sommer stated when delivering her ruling.
“The state has repeatedly made representations to the defense and to the court that they were compliant with all their discovery obligations,” she added.
The case was dismissed with prejudice, preventing it from being brought against Baldwin again.
Baldwin and his family broke down in tears in the courtroom.
