Alcaraz vs Djokovic: Wimbledon 2024 Men’s Singles Final Preview

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain will face tennis legend Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final at the All England Club in London on Sunday.

The final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic is scheduled for 11:00 PM Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). It will be live-streamed and broadcast in Australia.

Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, is aiming to secure his second consecutive Wimbledon title and his fourth Grand Slam title, having also won the French Open last month.

In the Wimbledon semi-finals, Alcaraz staged an impressive comeback to defeat fifth seed Daniil Medvedev, winning 6(1)-7(7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 55 minutes at Centre Court.

A victory on Sunday would make Alcaraz the first Spanish player to win back-to-back Wimbledon singles titles in the Open Era. He had defeated Djokovic in last year’s final.

In the quarter-finals, Alcaraz lost the first set against 12th-seeded Tommy Paul of the USA but won the next three to advance. He also endured a five-set match against Frances Tiafoe of the USA in the third round.

World No. 2 Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, is set to play in his 10th Grand Slam final at the All England Club. An injured Alex de Minaur handed him a walkover in the quarter-final, and he subsequently defeated world No. 25 Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7(7)-6(2), 6-4 in the semi-finals.

Djokovic’s path to his sixth consecutive Wimbledon final included victories over Australian Alexei Popyrin in the third round and 15th seed Holger Rune in the pre-quarterfinals.

Winning an eighth Wimbledon men’s singles title would put Djokovic level with Roger Federer. It would also mark his 25th career Grand Slam title, surpassing Margaret Court’s record.

Alcaraz and Djokovic have faced each other five times, with Djokovic leading their head-to-head record 3-2.

The duo last met in the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles final, where Alcaraz triumphed 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 after four hours and 42 minutes, marking the third-longest Wimbledon final in history.

The Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final will be broadcast live at 11:00 PM AEST on Nine Network and Stan Sport in Australia.
