Alabama football is facing a transition in its Wolf outside linebacker group as Qua Russaw has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Confirmed by 247Sports, this decision comes after Russaw, a four-star recruit from the 2023 class, spent two seasons with the Crimson Tide, where he notched 50 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, along with two sacks and two interceptions.

Russaw started the 2025 season as Alabama’s leading Wolf outside linebacker but suffered a foot injury during the team’s victory over Georgia, which sidelined him for six games. In his absence, Yhonzae Pierre stepped up significantly, establishing himself as a key player with eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss, marking the highest such totals for an Alabama defender since Dallas Turner.

While Russaw’s departure marks a change for Alabama’s defense, the team is not left without options. Justin Hill is anticipated to return for the 2026 season, providing experience and stability in the linebacker core. Additionally, the team will need to navigate the loss of another player, Noah Carter, who has also entered the transfer portal, affecting their depth in that position.

Despite these challenges, Alabama remains a strong program capable of adapting and reshaping its roster. With the emergence of players like Pierre, the future of Alabama football looks promising as they continue to cultivate talent and adjust to the landscape of college football.
