Rain is set to make a return to Alabama on Thursday, with forecasts from the National Weather Service indicating that while the rain will be widespread, it is not expected to bring severe storms. Some regions could receive up to an inch of rain, particularly in eastern Alabama, while areas in western Alabama may see between a quarter to half an inch.
Thursday is anticipated to bring mild temperatures across the state, with highs generally in the 60s. Rainfall is projected to begin during the day but will likely become more intense Thursday evening and persist into the overnight hours.
As the rain moves out on Friday, residents in northern Alabama should prepare for a notable dip in temperatures, with highs only reaching the 40s. Central Alabama will see highs in the low to mid-50s, while southern regions may linger in the 60s. Additionally, forecasts suggest that temperatures during Friday night could drop below freezing in the northern half of the state.
However, there is optimism in the long-term forecast, as the Climate Prediction Center projects a warmup beginning Friday and extending through Christmas Day. From December 22 to December 26, a high probability of above-average temperatures is predicted for all of Alabama, with west Alabama experiencing even greater chances. This trend towards warmer weather is likely to bring a welcome change after the cooler temperatures associated with Friday’s weather system.
