Al Roker’s Secret to Lasting Weight Loss and Wellness at 70

Al Roker recently shared an inspiring video on Instagram showcasing his approach to weight loss and fitness at the age of 70. In the video, he discusses opting for an indoor treadmill workout to avoid the extreme summer heat, instead of his usual outdoor speed walking.

During this post, Roker offered his followers a succinct motto that has helped him maintain a remarkable 100-pound weight loss for over 20 years: “Remember, something is better than nothing, baby.” He emphasizes the importance of consistency and small, sustainable actions in achieving fitness goals. Roker highlights that many people aim for improvements in their quality of life rather than extreme fitness feats.

His day begins with 10 minutes of weight training, which he believes is essential for maintaining bone health and flexibility as one ages, followed by 20 minutes on the treadmill. Depending on the temperature, he may venture out to Central Park for an additional 30 to 45-minute walk, aiming for a total of 10,000 steps daily.

Roker’s commitment to health is driven by his desire to be active for his granddaughter, Sky. He affectionately admits that he wants to be able to carry her around as she grows.

Regarding diet, Roker advocates for moderation rather than deprivation, suggesting that allowing oneself to enjoy favorite meals in moderation is key to long-term success. His indulgent meals include a ribeye steak with creamed spinach and a slice of apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.

He firmly believes that there are no shortcuts to lasting weight loss, stating, “There’s no magic bullet.” He emphasizes that while there may be surgical options or weight-loss medications, real change requires dedication and hard work.

Al Roker’s positive approach to fitness and wellness not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but encourages others to find balance and consistency in their own journeys.
