Legendary sports broadcaster Al Michaels is set to continue his illustrious career in sports commentary, confirming his return for the next season of Prime Video’s NFL coverage. The 81-year-old Hall of Famer, known for his engaging play-by-play calls, will once again team up with color commentator Kirk Herbstreit for “Thursday Night Football.” Michaels has been a significant voice in football for an impressive 40 years, making his mark with memorable moments, including his iconic call during the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s stunning victory over the Soviet Union.

Michaels’ contract with Amazon Prime originally began with a three-year deal, which is nearing its conclusion in 2024. However, he has been working under a one-year arrangement for the current season. Despite the uncertainty of the future, Michaels expressed his enthusiasm for continuing in the role, stating in an interview, “I feel really good, still love what I do,” indicating his commitment to the sport and his enjoyment of working with a talented team.

His career began in the late 1960s when he briefly worked alongside the legendary Chick Hearn, and he has since covered numerous high-profile events. His tenure as the voice of ABC’s “Monday Night Football” from 1986 to 2005 and NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” from 2006 to 2021 solidified his status as one of the foremost sports commentators in the industry. Over the years, he has called 11 Super Bowls, with the most recent being the memorable game in February 2022, where the Los Angeles Rams triumphed over the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium.

As Michaels continues to lend his voice to the NFL, fans can look forward to his expert commentary and storytelling, making the upcoming season a highly anticipated one for viewers.
