Veteran Victoria broadcaster Al Ferraby, known for hosting CFAX 1070’s morning show, has been charged with two serious offenses related to child luring. Court documents confirm his arrest and subsequent release with strict conditions.
Ferraby faces one count of using telecommunications to lure a child under the age of 16 for sexual interference or touching and another count involving luring a child under 18 to facilitate child pornography. Despite repeated attempts, Ferraby could not be reached for comment.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Vancouver Police Department that began in September 2024. Ferraby was initially arrested in February 2025 and released, with the Crown officially approving the charges on September 17 of the same year. He was taken into custody once more the following day.
During the investigation, Ferraby continued on air at CFAX, with Bell Media, the station’s owner, only being informed of the charges upon his second arrest. Following the news, Bell Media immediately suspended Ferraby. According to criminal defence lawyer Michael Mulligan, Ferraby likely had no contractual obligation to disclose the investigation to his employer, highlighting that such matters often depend on the terms of employment contracts.
Interestingly, the court documents do not mention any specific victims. Mulligan points out that in past cases, police have sometimes posed as minors in communications, suggesting the possibility of no actual young person being involved.
Ferraby’s longtime career at CFAX began in 1994, and during his tenure, he has participated in numerous charitable activities, including with the CFAX Santas Anonymous Society. Following his arrest, the charity, which had no prior knowledge of the investigation, promptly removed Ferraby from its board of directors pending the outcome of the case.
As per the conditions of his release, Ferraby is prohibited from engaging in online communication with anyone under 18. His first court appearance is slated for September 29. It’s important to note that these charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
