Jacob Neestrup and Iñigo Perez are being seriously considered by Ajax as potential successors to the recently dismissed John Heitinga. However, former player and current analyst Rene van der Gijp argues that the Amsterdam club would be better served by hiring Dick Schreuder from NEC.

Currently, Fred Grim is serving as the interim coach, but Ajax is on the lookout for a permanent head coach. There is uncertainty whether a new appointment will be made during the winter break, but several names have already surfaced. According to Voetbal International, Neestrup and Perez have been on Ajax’s radar for some time, although the magazine indicated that there are other candidates in the mix as well.

Van der Gijp expressed his support for Schreuder, who has been making waves as NEC’s coach. During a discussion on Vandaag Inside, it was noted that Frank de Boer is not in the running for the Ajax position, as he has no interest in coaching again. Wilfred Genee highlighted Van der Gijp’s suggestion about Schreuder, reiterating his impressive track record both at PEC Zwolle and currently at NEC.

“Dick Schreuder has been impressive as NEC’s coach,” Van der Gijp commented. He criticized the idea of bringing in another coach from Girona, who would likely want to bring along several Spanish players. “The football being played by NEC right now is very enjoyable. You can really see his influence on the team. Just give him a chance.”

However, Van der Gijp did offer a caveat regarding Schreuder’s potential appointment. He recalled a past appearance Schreuder made on Studio Voetbal, where he did not perform particularly well, and noted that he lacks extensive media experience. Nonetheless, many in the football community recognize the talents of Schreuder and advocate for him to be given a chance to prove himself at a larger club like Ajax.
