A’ja Wilson’s Injury Sparks Concern for Aces’ Season

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson will undergo an MRI on her right wrist following an injury sustained during a game against the New York Liberty, which the Aces lost 87-78. Aces head coach Becky Hammon announced the imaging would take place Wednesday morning but did not provide details on the injury’s severity.

Wilson suffered the injury late in the second quarter while attempting to drive down the lane; she landed awkwardly after being fouled. Despite the pain, she remained on the court momentarily, receiving an ovation from the crowd before making one of two free throws. She ultimately left for the locker room with 2:22 remaining in the half. In addition to her injury, Wilson struggled with her game performance, missing all three of her shot attempts but contributing four rebounds and two assists.

Hammon emphasized the importance of Wilson to the team, saying, “You can’t replace her for sure — not (with) one person, two or even three or four.” Earlier this season, Wilson missed three games while on concussion protocol, but the team managed to go 2-1 without her. The Aces will face the Washington Mystics on Thursday.

Jackie Young, who led the Aces with 19 points against the Liberty, acknowledged Wilson’s pivotal role, stating, “We know she’s the heart and soul of this team. She has our back every night.” Adding to the night’s events, earlier, Wilson was picked by Caitlin Clark to join her team in the upcoming All-Star Game set for July 19 in Indianapolis.

The Aces and their fans remain hopeful for Wilson’s swift recovery as they navigate the remainder of their season, emphasizing the importance of her health over immediate game outcomes.
