AJ Dybantsa Commits to BYU: A Star on the Rise

The future looks promising for AJ Dybantsa, a senior swingman from Brockton, who is currently the top-ranked player in the 2025 high school basketball recruiting class. On Tuesday, Dybantsa took a significant step in his basketball career by announcing his commitment to BYU Basketball during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take.

Dybantsa had an impressive list of contenders vying for his commitment, including powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Kansas, and North Carolina. His journey has seen him transfer to Utah Prep this past summer after valuable seasons at Prolific Prep in Napa, California, and St. Sebastian’s in Needham, Massachusetts.

Standing at 6 feet 9 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Dybantsa hails from Boston and was raised in Brockton, where he started honing his basketball skills at the Jubilee Christian Church in Stoughton. He comes from a supportive family; his parents, Ace and Chelsea, have championed his athletic endeavors, and he has a younger sister, Jasmyn, who excels as a volleyball player at Cardinal Spellman High.

Throughout his high school career, Dybantsa has consistently distinguished himself. As a freshman at St. Sebastian’s, he was celebrated as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts by averaging nearly 20 points, 10 rebounds, and boasting impressive shooting percentages. He then transferred to Prolific Prep for a season, reclassifying to the Class of 2025 and ultimately joining Utah Prep.

His summer was highlighted by representing Team USA at the U17 FIBA World Cup. Contributing significantly to the team’s success, Dybantsa helped secure the gold medal during their triumphant run in Turkey, showcasing his on-court prowess with a notable performance in the championship against Italy.

Dybantsa’s basketball talent has attracted attention from a wide array of Division I college programs, originally garnering offers from over 20 teams. His competitive spirit has narrowed his choices down to four elite programs: Alabama, BYU, Kansas, and North Carolina.
