AJ Dybantsa is poised for an exciting future in basketball as he embarks on the next chapter of his career. The senior swingman at Utah Prep, originally from Brockton, Massachusetts, has been recognized as the top player in the 2025 high school basketball recruiting class.
On Tuesday, Dybantsa made headlines by announcing his commitment to BYU Basketball on ESPN’s First Take, narrowing his choices down from a competitive list that included renowned programs such as Alabama, Kansas, and North Carolina.
Dybantsa’s basketball journey has seen him transition through several prestigious institutions. He transferred to Utah Prep this summer after previously playing for Prolific Prep in Napa, California, where he showcased his skills for one season, and he also spent two seasons at St. Sebastian’s, a private school in Needham, Massachusetts.
Standing at 6 feet 9 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Dybantsa’s physical attributes, combined with his exceptional playing ability, contribute to his impressive reputation. His early basketball experience began in Boston, where he developed his skills at Jubilee Christian Church in Stoughton.
On the family front, Dybantsa is supported by his parents, Ace and Chelsea Dybantsa, and his younger sister, Jasmyn, who is also making a name for herself as a volleyball standout.
Dybantsa has not only excelled at the high school level but has also gained national recognition. As a freshman, he earned the 2022-23 Gatorade Player of the Year title in Massachusetts, averaging 19 points, 9.6 rebounds, and showcasing his talent with a 60.8% shooting accuracy from the field. After transferring to Prolific Prep, he continued to elevate his game and eventually reclassified to the 2025 class.
His notable achievements also include contributions to Team USA’s U17 FIBA World Cup team, where he helped the squad secure their seventh consecutive gold medal in Turkey, scoring impressively in their championship victory against Italy.
Dybantsa’s recruitment has been highly sought after, attracting interest from numerous Division 1 programs across the nation. He started with over 20 offers, which he narrowed down to a select few before ultimately committing to BYU.
