COLLEGE STATION — No. 21 Texas A&M (5-1, 3-0) delivered a powerful performance against No. 9 Missouri (4-1, 1-1), securing a 41-10 victory on Saturday at Kyle Field. What was anticipated as a competitive clash between two top-25 SEC teams turned into a showcase of the Aggies’ dominance.
Starting quarterback Conner Weigman returned to the lineup for the first time since Week 2, displaying impressive readiness as the offense clicked into gear. The team effectively utilized significant plays and well-structured drives, outmatching the Tigers.
Running back Le’Veon Moss was a standout, rushing for 138 yards and scoring three touchdowns while the Aggies overpowered Missouri’s defensive line with their ground attack.
In the game’s final moments, Missouri faced a goal-line stand and opted for a short field goal with only eight seconds remaining. This marked the first complete game for Texas A&M in 2024, dominating throughout.
“I was proud of their will to continue to play. … That is a step we needed to take where in other games we didn’t finish the way we wanted to,” said A&M head coach Mike Elko.
The Aggies significantly outperformed the Tigers in total yards at 512 to 254, with 276 of those coming on the ground.
“I told you all at my opening press conference that we want to be a blue-collar program,” Elko noted. “The effort is starting to point to that.”
With this win, the Aggies extended their winning streak to five games and will enter a bye week. Elko highlighted the team’s growth since their opening loss to Notre Dame.
“We are in a growth mindset … we are trying to grow every single day,” he emphasized. “We didn’t flinch when we didn’t get the job done against Notre Dame.”
While the effectiveness of the run game was crucial, Moss acknowledged Weigman’s impact on the passing game.
“The passing game opened up the running game a tremendous amount,” Moss stated.
Defensive lineman Nic Scourton praised Weigman’s preparedness, noting his dedication to recovery and resilience against negativity.
“(He) never flinched. He was always in the training room working to get his shoulder back,” Scourton remarked.
Weigman completed 18 of 22 passes for 276 yards and added 33 rushing yards, demonstrating ball security and maintaining the offense’s rhythm.
After the Aggies’ defense made a crucial fourth-down stop to start the game, Weigman led a successful opening drive. His precision and timing were evident, complemented by an effective running game, resulting in an early advantage. The eight-play, 60-yard drive culminated in Amari Daniels scoring from one yard out to make it 7-0.
A&M extended their lead with a 44-yard field goal from kicker Randy Bond on the following possession and added two more touchdowns in the first half, ultimately establishing a 24-point lead. Daniels scored again with a 1-yard run, followed by Moss’s own 1-yard touchdown run, stunning Missouri.
The first half prominently featured the running game, with three touchdown runs: two from Daniels and one from Moss. Weigman compiled 193 passing yards on 15 of 19 completions.
Texas A&M’s defense was formidable, recording six sacks and effective stops while limiting Missouri’s key players, Luther Burden III and Theo Wease Jr., to just three receptions combined.
Looking ahead, No. 21 Texas A&M will take a bye week before preparing to visit Mississippi State in two weeks.
