Aggies Dominate Tigers: A Game-Changing Comeback

COLLEGE STATION — The No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies (5-1, 3-0) delivered a commanding performance against No. 9 Missouri (4-1, 1-1), winning 41-10 on Saturday at Kyle Field. What was anticipated as a competitive clash between two top-25 SEC teams turned into a display of strength from the Aggies.

Quarterback Conner Weigman made his return as a starter after missing several weeks and showed no signs of rust. The Texas A&M offense operated smoothly, successfully executing several big plays and well-structured drives, overwhelming the Tigers’ defense.

Running back Le’Veon Moss contributed significantly to the victory, rushing for 138 yards and scoring three touchdowns as the Aggies consistently challenged the Missouri defensive front.

Missouri managed to reach the goal line in the final minutes but opted for a short field goal with just eight seconds remaining. The Aggies showcased their prowess, executing a complete game from start to finish for the first time in 2024.

“I was proud of their determination to keep playing. … This is an important step, especially after we didn’t finish as we wanted in previous games,” said Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko.

The Aggies dominated in total yardage, outpacing the Tigers 512-254, including 276 yards from the running game.

“I mentioned in my opening press conference that we aim to be a blue-collar program,” Elko noted. “The effort is starting to reflect that.”

With this win, Texas A&M is on a five-game winning streak heading into a bye week. Elko believes his team has learned valuable lessons from their opening-week loss to Notre Dame.

“We are focused on growth and improvement every day,” he said. “We didn’t back down after the setback against Notre Dame.”

Moss emphasized the importance of Weigman’s contribution to the offense, stating, “The passing game significantly enhanced our running game.”

Defensive lineman Nic Scourton praised Weigman’s readiness and resilience throughout his recovery. “He was always dedicated to getting back on the field and didn’t let negativity affect him,” Scourton said.

Weigman concluded the game with an impressive 18 completions on 22 attempts for 276 passing yards, adding 33 rushing yards while managing the game effectively.

After the Aggies’ defense secured a fourth-down stop to start the game, Weigman led a successful opening drive, showcasing strong timing and rhythm. The offense responded accordingly, completing an eight-play, 60-yard drive that ended with Amari Daniels scoring the first touchdown from one yard out, putting Texas A&M up 7-0.

The Aggies extended their lead with a 44-yard field goal by kicker Randy Bond on their next possession. They followed with two more touchdowns in the first half, one from Daniels and another from Moss, bringing the lead to 24 points.

The running game was especially effective during the first half, with three rushing touchdowns – two from Daniels and one from Moss. Meanwhile, Weigman completed 15 of 19 passes for 193 yards.

On defense, Texas A&M was relentless, recording six sacks and effectively limiting Missouri playmakers Luther Burden III and Theo Wease Jr. to just three combined receptions.

Looking ahead, the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies will enjoy a bye week before preparing for their game against Mississippi State in two weeks.
