Netflix continues to dominate the streaming industry, becoming a major player in global entertainment production. However, the company has faced criticism over its payment practices for filmmakers. Traditionally, Netflix has not offered residual payments, leading to concerns among industry professionals. Now, renowned filmmakers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are aiming to bring about a change with their upcoming action movie, “The Rip.”

According to reports, “The Rip” will introduce a new compensation model that deviates from the standard all-upfront payment structure. Instead of this traditional approach, the film will feature a performance-based bonus pool created for all 1,200 cast and crew members, including the stars and writer/director Joe Carnahan. This innovative model hinges on the film meeting specific viewership milestones, allowing everyone involved to benefit from the film’s success.

Affleck emphasized the importance of this new deal, saying, “We wanted to address some of the real issues that are present and urgent in this business. This deal is fundamental to the ideas we had when we started the company.” Affleck and Damon produced “The Rip” through their production company, Artists Equity, which they established together in 2022. The name itself reflects their mission to promote fairness and equity within the industry.

The film follows a group of Miami police officers who stumble upon millions of dollars in a rundown stash house, leading them into a dramatic moral dilemma. By testing this new model, Affleck and Damon are not only redefining how filmmakers are compensated but also paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable film industry. This initiative could set a precedent for future projects, signaling a potential shift in how streaming platforms reward creative talent.
