Adele is set to make her acting debut in the film adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel, “Cry to Heaven,” directed by fashion icon Tom Ford. The story, which takes place in 18th century Italy, revolves around the unexpected intertwining of the lives of a Venetian noble and a castrated opera singer. This marks an exciting new chapter for Adele, who is best known for her powerful voice and chart-topping hits such as “Hello,” “Rolling in the Deep,” and the Oscar-winning “Skyfall.”

In addition to Adele, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, and Thandiwe Newton, among others. “Cry to Heaven” is currently in pre-production in London and Rome, with principal photography slated to begin in January. The film is expected to hit theaters in the fall of 2026, with Ford self-financing the project and planning to seek a buyer post-production.

Tom Ford, who previously directed the acclaimed films “A Single Man” and “Nocturnal Animals,” reunites with Taylor-Johnson, who appeared in “Nocturnal Animals,” as well as Firth, a star of “A Single Man.” Ford’s filmmaking is characterized by his unique visual style and storytelling ability, indicating that “Cry to Heaven” could be a visual feast.

Adele, who recently wrapped up her Las Vegas residency, has expressed her desire to take a break from music to explore different creative avenues. She mentioned in July 2024 that she does not currently have plans for new music and looks forward to a significant hiatus to focus on new projects, making her foray into acting a particularly timely and exciting venture. This shift in her career adds an intriguing layer to her artistic journey, showcasing her versatility beyond music.
