The President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, recently completed a meaningful visit to two prominent landmarks in the United Arab Emirates— the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Wahat Al Karama in Abu Dhabi—on November 4, 2025. This visit highlighted the strengthening relationship between Fiji and the UAE, embodying their shared values of peace and unity.
As President Lalabalavu toured the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, he explored its remarkable architectural features and cultural significance, which symbolize harmony and inclusivity. The mosque, known for its picturesque 82 domes and over 1,000 columns, also houses the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet and stunning chandeliers embellished with 24-carat gold. During this tour, the President took a moment to honor the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, whose vision for peace continues to resonate around the globe.
Afterward, President Lalabalavu paid tribute to the UAE’s fallen heroes by laying a wreath at Wahat Al Karama. This memorial, characterized by its 31 aluminum-clad tablets, symbolizes the unity between the UAE’s leadership, its citizens, and the armed forces. The President was warmly received by His Highness Zayed Bin Mohamed, the son of the current President of the UAE.
In his remarks at the memorial, President Lalabalavu praised the UAE’s dedication to interfaith dialogue and cultural understanding, noting the shared goals that bring Fiji and the UAE together in their quest for global peace and mutual respect.
