Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would halt any contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her plan to support the party again after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
At the time of her donation freeze, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing her potential to lead the Democrats to victory if the party could unite behind her. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney’s discontent with Biden grew after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump, a sentiment shared by other prominent Democratic donors. Reports suggest that pressure from these donors partially influenced Biden’s decision to step down from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable Democrats, including George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also expressed their support for Harris.
