Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.
Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, had previously declared she would cease all contributions to the party until Biden was no longer the presidential nominee.
In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped down and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially made the decision to halt her financial support, Disney expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender factor into that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among a number of prominent Democratic donors who became disillusioned with Biden following his underwhelming debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from influential donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw.
Following Biden’s exit, notable philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
