Abigail Disney’s Bold Move: Resuming Donations in a Changing Political Landscape

Abigail Disney, heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, announced her intention to resume donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. This development comes as Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared that she would halt her contributions to the party until Biden stepped aside. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has formally exited the race.

At the time of her initial pledge to withhold donations, Disney had expressed her support for Harris, asserting the Vice President’s capabilities. She suggested that if the Democratic Party were to embrace Harris with the same tolerance afforded to Biden, they could significantly improve their chances of winning the upcoming election.

Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who became disillusioned with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and a reduction in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
