Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she plans to restart her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has chosen to withdraw from the presidential race.
This represents the first lawsuit faced by McDonald’s related to the E. coli outbreak linked to its Quarter Pounder.
Disney, the granddaughter of one of The Walt Disney Company’s co-founders, previously declared that she would halt contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her intentions to resume support now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially chose to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney’s criticisms are part of a broader discontent among influential Democratic donors following Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw.
Notable donors George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
