Abigail Disney Sparks Democratic Donor Shift with Support for Harris

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of one of The Walt Disney Company’s co-founders, has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for reelection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Earlier this month, Disney stated she would cease contributions until Biden stepped aside as the party’s nominee.

In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision to resume contributions following Biden’s endorsement of Harris. When she initially declared her refusal to donate, she expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s capabilities and urging the Democratic Party to unite behind her. Disney emphasized that if the party could rally around Harris without the reservations they had shown toward Biden, they would have a strong chance of winning the upcoming election.

Disney’s actions reflect a broader discontent among elite Democratic donors in response to Biden’s performance, particularly after his controversial debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that this discontent, along with declining financial support from major donors, contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside.

Notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also voiced their support for Harris following Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
