Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign. Earlier this month, she declared that she would halt her contributions until a new candidate replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. During her previous statement about withholding donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s…and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among numerous high-profile Democratic donors who voiced their discontent with Biden following a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and a significant dip in financial support contributed to Biden’s withdrawal from the race. Following this development, notable figures such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement for Harris.
