Abigail Disney, an heiress with deep ties to The Walt Disney Company, announced she will begin donating to the Democratic Party again following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Earlier this month, Disney expressed her intent to suspend contributions until the party found a new frontrunner, voicing her support for Vice President Kamala Harris during that time. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her return to supporting the party, now that Biden has endorsed Harris for the presidency.
Disney praised Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
She was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that donor pressure and a decrease in campaign contributions contributed to Biden’s exit from the race. Additionally, notable political donors George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also thrown their support behind Harris following Biden’s announcement.
