Abigail Disney, a prominent heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume financial support for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race. Disney had previously declared she would halt her donations until Biden was replaced on the ticket, a stance she has since revised after his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” expressing optimism about Harris’s candidacy. Earlier, she had praised Harris as an exceptional Vice President and highlighted the unfair standards to which she is subjected compared to Biden, particularly regarding issues of race and gender. Disney emphasized the necessity for the Democratic Party to unite behind Harris to secure a significant victory in the upcoming election.
Disney’s earlier reluctance to contribute financially was shared by other elite Democratic donors following Biden’s lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the growing dissatisfaction among donors might have influenced Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also expressed their support for Harris, indicating a shifting dynamic within the party as it prepares for the upcoming election cycle.
This development suggests a strengthening of support for Kamala Harris, bringing hope for potential revitalization within the Democratic Party as it gears up for the campaign ahead. With influential figures rallying behind her candidacy, there may be a renewed sense of ambition and focus within the party, setting the stage for a competitive election year.
