Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Disney, a member of the influential Disney family, had previously stated she would halt donations until the party found a new candidate to lead the ticket. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her return to supporting the party, now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
Earlier this month, Disney had voiced her frustration with Biden, expressing her belief in Harris’s capabilities as a candidate. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s, and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney’s withdrawal of support for Biden came after a poor debate showing against former President Donald Trump, which led to frustration among elite Democratic donors. Reports suggest that this dissatisfaction contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.
Notably, billionaire donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
