Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has officially dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
Disney, whose grandfather played a key role in founding The Walt Disney Company, had previously declared that she would halt all contributions to the Democratic Party until Biden was no longer the party’s nominee. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her change of heart, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred successor.
When Disney initially made her decision to withhold donations, she expressed her support for Harris, praising her capabilities as an exceptional Vice President. Disney criticized the Democratic Party for allowing Biden’s shortcomings to overshadow Harris, suggesting that if the party would unite behind Harris, they could secure a significant victory in the upcoming election.
Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden’s performance after a challenging debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that the pressure from influential donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Notably, billionaire donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also thrown their support behind Harris following Biden’s announcement.
