Abigail Disney Revives Support for Democrats Amid Biden’s Exit

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume financial contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.

Earlier in the month, Disney had declared that she would cease her donations until a new candidate replaced Biden at the top of the ticket. However, following Biden’s withdrawal and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, she confirmed in an email to CNBC that she would start supporting the party again.

When she initially withdrew her financial support, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s—and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity—and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from influential donors and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to step down. George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Harris following the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal.
