Abigail Disney Revives Support for Democrats After Biden’s Exit

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would halt contributions until Biden was no longer the presidential candidate.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s exit from the race and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as the new candidate.

When announcing her pause in donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, asserting, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent donors to the Democratic Party who became disillusioned with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in funding were factors contributing to Biden’s decision to step aside. Following Biden’s announcement, notable donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
