Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.
Earlier, Disney had stated she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In a recent email, she confirmed her decision to resume her support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
Upon announcing her decision to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, acknowledging the Vice President’s strengths and urging the Democratic Party to unite behind her. Disney remarked that if the Democrats could accept Harris’s perceived shortcomings as they have Biden’s, the party could secure a significant electoral victory.
Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly following what many viewed as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to drop out of the race.
Notably, influential donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
