Abigail Disney Revives Donations: What’s Behind Her Support for Harris?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney declared that she would halt her financial support for the party until Biden was replaced on the ticket. However, after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, she communicated in an email to CNBC that she would begin contributing again.

When she initially decided to withhold her donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President.” She emphasized that if the Democratic Party could rally behind Harris and not judge her based on perceived shortcomings as harshly as they have judged Biden, they could greatly improve their chances in the upcoming election.

Disney was not alone in her criticism of Biden, as she was among several prominent Democratic donors who became disillusioned after his poor debate performance against Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement for Harris.
