Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced she will resume financial contributions to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden officially withdrew from the 2024 presidential race. Disney had previously declared her intention to halt donations until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, stating she would resume her contributions now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential run.
When she initially paused her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s strengths. She remarked that if Democrats could overcome their concerns about Harris, as they have not done for Biden, they could achieve significant electoral success.
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who became disenchanted with Biden after his poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential party donors and a decrease in funding may have contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.
Notably, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Kamala Harris following Biden’s exit.
