Abigail Disney Revives Donations: What Changed Her Mind?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney had stated that she would halt her contributions until a new candidate replaced Biden at the forefront of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has exited the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When Disney initially declared her intention to withhold donations, she expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s capabilities. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings as much as they have tolerated Biden’s, and if they can find a way to rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following a poorly received debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that frustrations from the donor community, along with a decrease in financial support, contributed to Biden’s withdrawal from the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also backed Harris after the announcement of Biden’s exit.
