Abigail Disney Revives Donations to Democrats After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced her decision to resume contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race. Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt donations until Biden was replaced as the party’s nominee.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her renewed support for the party, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When she previously announced her decision to stop contributions, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the vice president’s capabilities. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump, with reports suggesting that pressure from major donors contributed to his decision to step down. Following Biden’s announcement, both George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
