Heir to the Disney fortune, Abigail Disney, has announced that she will resume her financial contributions to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection campaign. Disney previously stated that she would halt her donations until a new candidate was positioned at the top of the ticket. In a message to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has exited the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
Earlier this month, when she initially declared her pause on donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, remarking on the Vice President’s value. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Abigail Disney is among several prominent Democratic donors who have voiced their discontent with Biden, particularly after a disappointing debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that frustrations from major donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following this development, well-known financier George Soros and his son Alex Soros have also come out in support of Harris.
