Abigail Disney Revives Donations to Democrats After Biden Exits: What’s Next?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she plans to restart her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection.

In a survey, it was revealed that most Americans do not consider themselves wealthy even with a million dollars in savings.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt contributions to the party until Biden stepped aside. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her intention to resume support now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination.

When she initially decided to cease donations, Disney publicly expressed her backing for Harris. She noted, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s comments reflect a growing discontent among elite Democratic donors after Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decline in financial contributions contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw.

Following Biden’s announcement, prominent donors George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
