Abigail Disney Revives Donations: Is Kamala Harris the Future?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated earlier this month that she would halt her contributions until there was a new candidate at the top of the ticket.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to step down and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. At the time she announced her withdrawal of support, she expressed her backing for Harris.

Disney highlighted her confidence in Harris, saying, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden, especially after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that mounting pressure from the donor community and a reduction in contributions played a role in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, influential donors George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
